Not exactly the best question to ask when discussing healthcare. But, often this is first thing employees want to know when they receive their healthcare benefits from an employer. A lot of people want a list of preventative care services they can participate in that don’t require a copayment. And the great news is that the list exists. There are many services that adults and children can receive even when the deductible has not yet been met.
SPECIAL NOTE: Employees will need to verify that these services are covered by the plan the choose or their coinsurance.
Most insurance providers are proponents of preventative care. Here is a short list of the most common services people inquire about for themselves and their families:

    Diabetes (Type 2) screening
    Blood pressure screening
    Cholesterol screening
    Aspirin use
    Diet counseling
    Hepatitis B and C screening
    Immunizations
    Lung cancer screening
    Sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention counseling
    STD screening
    Tobacco use screening

When employees are encouraged to actively participate in their healthcare, early detection of diabetes, cancer and STDs is possible. Employers could remind employees to ask for an updated list of available preventative care every year during open enrollment. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
